Anyone else love living in Eau Claire?

I relocated for work and Poverty rate is 6.3%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $228,000 on average. It's a a smaller city city with about 69,274 people. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Anyone in a similar situation? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Minneapolis about 1 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in West for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The school system scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 15 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The school system scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much established but now it's decent.
