OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 30, moved here 5 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Midtown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The housing market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for couples. decent vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 7 years. Moved from Raleigh for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is improving - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Bugs and humidity in summer. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for couples. excellent vibes, walkable.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely underrated and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely excellent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Sunset) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely excellent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (North) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

I've lived in The Heights for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community
- The walkability scene is decent

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..
