We're a young couple and Rent is about $971/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $228,000 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Minneapolis about 4 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely underrated and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Sunset) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
