Been meaning to ask this. Rent is about $971/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $65,369 in Eau Claire. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. With a population of 69,274, Eau Claire is a smaller city. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Let me know your thoughts. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I work in education here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is challenging. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 14 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options
- The safety scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
