Hey everyone, Average temperature is around 47--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $1,761/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 63,249 people. You can expect to pay around $1,761 for rent here. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 5 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 36, moved here 14 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Westside and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The food scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely tough and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been here 11 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is underrated.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is improving.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in North for 8 years. Moved from Austin for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is decent - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Limited entertainment options. And safety can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
