Moving to Eden Prairie with kids -good idea?

I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Eden Prairie sits at 80.3 per 100K. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Let me know your thoughts.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 34, moved here 15 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Midtown and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Close to major attractions
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The pet-friendliness situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**

I've lived in Eastside for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good airport with direct flights
- The cost of living scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 3 years. Moved from Chicago for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is average - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Homeless population growing downtown. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
