Not sure if this has been asked before, but It's a a small town city with about 4,480 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Edenton sits at 842.2 per 100K. Rent is about $632/month for a decent place. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cheers. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely excellent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Riverside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 29, moved here 10 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Lakewood and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The cultural scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for young professionals. decent vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely challenging and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Springfield) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Korean places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Dallas it's average.
