Alright, Homes are going for about $723,400 on average. Household incomes average around $137,847 in Edgewater. You can expect to pay around $2,645 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Anyone in a similar situation? TIA! Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a electrician, 29, moved here 14 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Uptown and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The cultural scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for work and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The healthcare is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 12 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Minneapolis about 10 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..
