Property taxes are high but you get good services. Should I be concerned? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 6 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Downtown for 7 years. Moved from San Francisco for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is solid - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not a lot of cultural diversity. Limited entertainment options. And nightlife can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Minneapolis about 9 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in education. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Indian.
