I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The public transit is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Downtown. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 41, moved here 4 years ago from Houston. I've lived in East and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The cost of living situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for couples. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The public transit is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The cultural scene is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in Highland for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The weather scene is solid

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..
