Best neighborhoods in Edinburg

So, We're a young couple and Household incomes average around $57,789 in Edinburg. Poverty rate is 22.4%, which is higher than I expected. The median home value here is around $174,800, which is actually reasonable. Rent is about $968/month for a decent place. It's a a mid-size city city with about 103K people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Lots of new development
- Good healthcare facilities
- Walkable downtown
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- Few job opportunities in some fields
The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Used to live on the Lakewood side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 54, moved here 9 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Downtown and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Close to major attractions
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The school system situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
