Edinburg in the winter -how bad?

Hey everyone, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Household incomes average around $57,789 in Edinburg. You can expect to pay around $968 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in tech. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 34, moved here 13 years ago from LA. I've lived in Downtown and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The food scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for retirees. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
