Couple moving to Edwards AFB from out of state

OK so With a population of 2,566, Edwards AFB is a small town. It's a a small town city with about 2,566 people. Average temperature is around 61--F, so the weather is moderate. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Am I overthinking this? Thanks in advance! People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

Came here for work and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The cultural scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 9 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The cost of living is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in tech. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 54, moved here 9 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Eastside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Affordable housing options
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The pet-friendliness situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

I work in construction here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is decent. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Fairview area are average. Kids love it here.
