Job market in Edwardsville for tech?
Hey folks, Thoughts? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The healthcare is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from LA about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is improving.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely underrated and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Sunset) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
