I work in retail and It's a a small town city with about 1,064 people. Homes are going for about $192,900 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Efland sits at 852.6 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Does this match your experience? Looking forward to hearing from you all. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Charlotte about 1 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Moved here from Pittsburgh about 3 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to safety but Happy to answer more specific questions..

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Greenfield area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Midtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
