Anyone else love living in El Cajon?
First post here. We have two kids and It's a a mid-size city city with about 105K people. You can expect to pay around $1,790 for rent here. With a population of 105K, El Cajon is a mid-size city. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.
Pros:
- Great weather
- Good schools
- Close to nature
- Plenty of shopping options
Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Limited nightlife
- Sprawl everywhere
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Poor road conditions
Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.
