Been meaning to ask this. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Rent is about $1,790/month for a decent place. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Let me know your thoughts. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 14 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
