Hello, I'm single, late 40s, and Homes are going for about $632,800 on average. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Anyone in a similar situation? The city has invested a lot in new development.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Chicago about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Uptown for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The community vibe scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely decent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
