Anyone else feel this way? Poverty rate is 11.8%, which is around average. Rent is about $973/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 5.3%, which is about average. Crime rate is something to consider -El Campo sits at 353.0 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from New York about 6 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
