Unpopular opinion about El Centro

First post here. Homes are going for about $291,100 on average. The unemployment rate is 5.9%, which is about average. Poverty rate is 17.2%, which is higher than I expected. Median household income is $56,093, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $992 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Friendly people
- Growing food scene
- Plenty of shopping options
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Sprawl everywhere
- Limited dining options
- Poor road conditions
- Far from major airports
Anyone in a similar situation? Appreciate any input. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Westside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The walkability is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..
