Remote worker thinking about El Paso

Alright, I'm originally from Omaha and Rent is about $1,041/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider — El Paso sits at 352.7 per 100K. Household incomes average around $58,734 in El Paso. The unemployment rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. What would you do? Appreciate any input. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in marketing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if healthcare matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Phoenix about 6 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is tough.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in legal. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2020 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely improving and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (East) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Miami it's decent.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 49, moved here 8 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in West and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Winters are long and cold
3. The dating scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for couples. underrated vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 1 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
