Rent prices in El Paso - is this real?

Alright, need some real talk here. Crime rate at 352.7/100K residents is something to {crime_feel}. Honestly the biggest downside is the traffic. What's your experience been?

Gonna share a detailed perspective since most replies are pretty surface-level.

I'm a remote worker in East Side. Been here since 2018. Downtown has improved dramatically since I first moved here..

Neighborhood-wise, East Side has really changed in the past few years. Mission Hills is the up-and-coming spot right now. Mesita is where I'd look if budget is a concern.

Job market for real estate: excellent. For education: established.

I keep discovering new spots even after {yr} years.

Good luck!

Let me give you the perspective nobody asked for but everyone needs.

I've lived in West Side, Canutillo, and currently in Northeast. Each one feels like a different city honestly.

Rent comparison:
- West Side: /mo for a 2-bed
- Canutillo: about /mo
- Northeast: /mo but improving

Cost of living is {col_feel} compared to where I came from.. The key is finding your neighborhood. Once you do, El Paso really clicks. Feel free to ask specifics.

Just to add another data point - we moved from Austin about 12 years ago. I feel like {city} is becoming more expensive without getting better.. No regrets so far.

Renter's perspective: I think it's fair for the area. I'm in Horizon City and it's underrated. Definitely shop around though.

Parent of two in Mission Hills. Schools are decent here. Downtown has improved dramatically since I first moved here.. Would recommend visiting before deciding.

We pay /mo in Mission Hills for a 2-bed and I could find cheaper but love the neighborhood. Grocery prices are creeping up but still manageable.

Great question. Here's my honest take after 1 years:

The good:
- Great food scene
- Growing job market
- Lots of new restaurants opening

The not-so-good:
- Limited public transit
- Winters are harsh

Grocery prices are creeping up but still manageable.. I'd say for singles, El Paso is great. Good luck!

OK since this keeps coming up, here's my definitive El Paso guide from someone who's been here way too long.

**Neighborhoods ranked (my opinion):**

Tier 1 (if you can afford it):
- Sunset Heights: walkable, great restaurants, young crowd
- East Side: growing fast, get in now

Tier 2 (best value):
- Cloudcroft area: great community feel
- West Side: suburban feel, big yards

Avoid (unless you know what you're doing):
- I won't name names but do your research on anything significantly below market rate

**Cost Reality Check:**
- 1-bed decent area: /mo
- 2-bed decent area: /mo
- Groceries for 2: /mo
- Car insurance: hit or miss compared to national avg
- Utilities: /mo average

**The Honest Truth:**
The airport connections are {adj} which matters if you travel.. El Paso is affordable but it's not for everyone. If you value quiet over walkability, you'll love it. If it's the other way around, maybe consider Dallas.

Not to be negative but the schools are inconsistent. I still like living here overall though. Just keeping it real.
