Rent in El Rancho getting crazy

Been meaning to ask this. I'm retired and It's a a small town city with about 1,432 people. The median home value here is around $257,100, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. You can expect to pay around $1,080 for rent here. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Close to nature
- Diverse community
- Strong sense of community
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Lack of diversity
- Poor road conditions
- Chain restaurants dominate
Am I wrong here? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Phoenix about 7 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is excellent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Maple Ridge. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
