El Segundo quality of life -am I missing something?
Hi all, I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What would you do?

I'm a real estate agent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The school system is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 8 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been here 11 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is excellent.

Came here for family and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The safety is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Atlanta about 4 years ago. The main reasons were school and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is improving.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Good luck with whatever you decide..
