Top 5 things I love about El Segundo

First post here. Crime rate is something to consider -El Segundo sits at 490.2 per 100K. The median home value here is around $1,521,600, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 64--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Growing food scene
- Good schools
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- Lack of diversity
- Homelessness issues downtown
Does this match your experience? TIA! People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely better than expected and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
