OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 32, moved here 14 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Greenfield and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Homeless population growing downtown
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The dating scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for young professionals. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Westside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in South for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- The job market scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely solid and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 5 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
