Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Lots of new development
- Active local events

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited public transit
- Hot summers
- Sprawl everywhere
- High property taxes

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The safety is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Boston it's improving.

Came here for school and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The school system is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely tough and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (West) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Westside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening
- The nightlife scene is average

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.
