Curious what people think. I'm single, late 20s, and Poverty rate is 9.8%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Elfers sits at 799.6 per 100K. Average temperature is around 73--F, so it's warm year-round. The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Worth the trade-offs? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely excellent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Sunset) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The food scene is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 10 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
