Job market in Elgin for tech?

Longtime lurker here, The median home value here is around $252,400, which seems about average. Median household income is $88,316, which feels pretty solid for the area. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What do you all think? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Minneapolis it's surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Raleigh about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is average.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
