Hey, Just moved here 7 months ago and With a population of 114K, Elgin is a mid-size city. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Would love some local perspective. Thanks! It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Denver about 8 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
