Thinking about relocating to Elgin from Cincinnati

I've been here for 13 years and The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

No regrets on my end..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I work in engineering here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is pretty good. Hope this helps!.
