Been meaning to ask this. I'm retired and With a population of 10,996, Elgin is a small town. Rent is about $1,289/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Worth the trade-offs? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.
