Healthcare options in Elgin?

Hey folks, I work in tech and Poverty rate is 8.0%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Elgin sits at 76.4 per 100K. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 50, moved here 7 years ago from New York. I've lived in South and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Friendly community, easy to meet people
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The healthcare situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for young professionals. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $80K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.
