Should I move to Elgin or stay in Phoenix?

I'm retired and You can expect to pay around $1,289 for rent here. Household incomes average around $85,666 in Elgin. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Am I wrong here? Thanks in advance! It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 11 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been here 9 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from San Francisco about 1 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Happy to answer more specific questions..
