Hey, Household incomes average around $85,666 in Elgin. Poverty rate is 8.0%, which is pretty low. The city has invested a lot in new development. Am I wrong here? Thanks for reading. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I work in real estate here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is excellent. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Atlanta it's underrated.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Baltimore about 11 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is tough.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
