The good and bad of living in Elizabethtown

Hello, Household incomes average around $67,770 in Elizabethtown. Rent is about $1,038/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 11,857 people. The median home value here is around $222,600, which is actually reasonable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Am I overthinking this? Thanks! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 52, moved here 2 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Old Town and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The traffic situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for singles. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a software engineer and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is average and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in real estate. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 6 years. Moved from San Diego for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Urban sprawl is real. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 5/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
