Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Raleigh about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is improving.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
