What's it really like living in Elk Grove?

I work in engineering and With a population of 177K, Elk Grove is a mid-size city. The median home value here is around $603,400, which is pretty steep. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Anyone in a similar situation? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
