So, Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I wrong here? It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
- The outdoor recreation scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in South for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- The weather scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 13 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 15 years ago. The main reasons were school and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely underrated and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Springfield) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 42, moved here 14 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Riverside and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Homeless population growing downtown
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..
