OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in government. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Houston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is improving.
