From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Miami about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is tough.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in real estate. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Southern.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for retirement and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
