Moving to Elmont for work -advice?

Curious what people think. Poverty rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Elmont sits at 119.0 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 36,436 people. With a population of 36,436, Elmont is a smaller city. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. TIA! Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 36, moved here 13 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Westside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The cultural scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Baltimore it's excellent.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Old Town side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.
