Anyone else feel this way? My partner and I are With a population of 23,982, Elmwood Park is a small town. Homes are going for about $325,000 on average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much pricey but now it's better than expected.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely tough and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (East) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Old Town for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The community vibe scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..
