Longtime lurker here, I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $901/month for a decent place. Median household income is $49,226, which feels on the lower side for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Let me know your thoughts. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely solid and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Springfield) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Riverside for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Diverse dining options
- The community vibe scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 10 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Maple Ridge. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.
