The good and bad of living in Elsmere

Random thought, Homes are going for about $157,200 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great craft beer places. I love the pace of life here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Tampa about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Uptown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The school system is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The safety is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
