Cost of living reality check -Elyria

Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from Raleigh and Crime rate is something to consider -Elyria sits at 254.6 per 100K. Household incomes average around $53,204 in Elyria. With a population of 52,833, Elyria is a smaller city. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Close to nature
- Low taxes
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Homelessness issues downtown
What would you do? The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I've lived in Uptown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- The housing market scene is decent

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The housing market is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in real estate. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I'm a marketing manager and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is average and there's always something going on.
