Elyria vs Baltimore -which is better?

Household incomes average around $53,204 in Elyria. Rent is about $859/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 15.0%, which is around average. You can expect to pay around $859 for rent here. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Good schools
- Close to nature
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited public transit

Am I wrong here? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Chicago about 11 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Old Town) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely tough and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from New York about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
