What I wish I knew before living in Elyria
Hi all, I relocated for work and Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a smaller city city with about 52,833 people. Homes are going for about $142,800 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Elyria sits at 254.6 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.
Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Close to nature
- Diverse community
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited public transit
- Limited nightlife
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good.
