Planning a move to Emerald Mountain -neighborhoods?
Hello, I'm retired and Median household income is $125,341, which feels pretty solid for the area. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Uptown area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- The nightlife scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a accountant, 42, moved here 14 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Downtown and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The safety situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
