Born and raised here. The median home value here is around $299,000, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Raleigh about 3 years ago. The main reasons were weather and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from LA about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 6 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.
